After a stretch of warmer days and the litter that followed the local response has been immediate.
More than 600 new members have now joined the clean-up WhatsApp group, with residents across Clapham stepping in to help keep Clapham Common looking its best.
The initiative is being organised by Best of Clapham in collaboration with Friends of Clapham Common, and thanks to the growing support, efforts are now being stepped up this summer.
From early May through to mid-September, there will be two organised litter picks every month with one taking place on the first Saturday of each month (11am–12:30pm) at the Bandstand, alongside an additional clean-up to meet demand.
As the Common gets busier in warmer weather, we all know what can happen but it’s great to see so many people stepping up to make a real difference. A huge thank you to everyone already involved, and to those willing to give even 20 minutes of their time, it genuinely goes a long way.
Local businesses are also getting involved. Lockdown Bakehouse has been providing treats for volunteers, while the team at Marks & Spencer is preparing to join upcoming sessions a strong example of businesses supporting the local community.
Everything is provided on the day, and it’s fully family-friendly.
